Yin Style Baguazhang Beijing Intensive 2012

Dates: Monday, April 2nd to Saturday, April 14th, 2012
(Plan on arriving in Beijing on Sunday, April 1st and departing on Sunday, April 15th)
Objectives:
1. Improve understanding of footwork usage during fighting.
2. Gain proficiency with Phoenix system striking and force generation methods.
3. Introduce striking techniques and power development methods of the Rooster system.
4. Attain basic proficiency with 16 foundational attack methods of Bagua straight sword, continue to develop and refine bagua saber technique.
Training Schedule:
6:00 - 8:00 AM Foundational Strike Training
Strike practice, mainly utilizing moving step training methods.
Week 1: The focus will be on three of the attack methods of the Phoenix system: chopping, shocking, and curling in attacks.
The coordination of footwork and body movement to help improve issuing of force in the strikes will be explored. In addition, Phoenix system's use of two forces per strike will be contrasted with the singular force of Lion system.
Week 2: Two days of Lion system strike combination training and refinement / four days of training Rooster system attack methods (dodging, extending, rising, shifting) and strike power development.
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Bagua Weapons Practice
Week 1: The sixteen foundational attack methods of the bagua straight sword will be taught. These foundational practices must be trained in order to be a proficient sword practitioner. The focus of straight sword training will be to develop a working knowledge of the bagua sword and proficiency with its sixteen basic attack methods.
April 9 - April 10: The swordfighting technique combination form will be taught
April 11 - April 14: The first hour will be devoted to the training of individual movements and basic exercises with the saber to increase strength and coordination.
The second hour will feature the practice of the Nine Dragon Saber Form with a focus on use of body movement, accuracy of saber technique, rhythm of movement while executing the form, and applications of the form will be covered.
2:30 - 5:00 PM Strike Combinations, Forms and Application Training
Week 1: The focus will be on training different types of footwork and body movement patterns found in various forms and how these relate to fighting application. The following Phoenix system forms will be trained : Interlocking dodging, Moving with the force extending, Turning the back chopping, Holding & lifting shocking, Lying step curling in, Enfolding stabbing. Each day will highlight a different type of footwork unique to that day's form.
Week 2: The first 2 days will feature training in Lion system strikes for opening the opponent's defenses, power development methods and applications. The next 4 days we will train Rooster system attack methods, isometric strengthening postures, circle turning, and fighting technique combination forms.

Prerequisites: Prior training experience in Yin Style Baguazhang is required.
Cost: $1180 (double occupancy) $1420 (single occupancy)
Cost includes: tuition, lodging, 3 buffet-style meals per day, airport pick-up / drop-off, and one day trip into Beijing city for tourism / R&R
