Yin Style Baguazhang Beijing Intensive 2010

Dates: Monday, March 29th to Saturday, April 10th, 2010
(Plan on arriving in Beijing on Sunday March 28th and departing on Sunday, April 11th)
Objectives:
1. To improve results in fighting application of previously studied attack methods of the Yin Style Bagua Lion System
2. To gain understanding of the force transforming and removing methods of bagua through training of the Phoenix System attack methods
3. Continued development and refinement of bagua saber technique and introduction to the bagua straight sword
Training Schedule:
6:00 - 8:00 AM Foundational Strike Training
Strike practice, mainly utilizing moving step training methods.
Week 1: The focus will be on combinations of strikes from all of the 8 Lion system attack methods, with emphasis on how to effectively change force from one strike to the next.
Week 2: The focus will be on the foundational attack methods of the Phoenix system: Dodging, Extending, Chopping, and Shocking.
The coordination of stepping and body movement to help improve issuing of force in the strikes will be explored.
10:00 - 12:00 AM Bagua Large Weapons Practice
March 29 - April 6: The focus of the first hour will be the training of individual movements and basic exercises with the saber to increase strength and coordination and to correct some of the more common problems that occur during saber practice.
The second hour will be the practice of the Nine Dragon Saber Form with a focus on the use of body movement, accuracy of saber technique, rhythm of movement while executing the form, and applications of the form will be covered.
April 7 - April 10: The foundational practices of the bagua straight sword will be taught. These foundational practices must be trained before beginning the straight sword form. The focus of straight sword training will be to develop a working knowledge of the bagua sword and its basic usage.
2:30 - 5:00 PM Strikes and Application Training
The training focus will be on using the different stepping patterns and types of body movement to aid in fighting application. A great deal of time will be spent on the following finer aspects of applying the techniques:
- 1. how to gain an advantageous position on the opponent
- 2. how to pair the proper stepping method with the technique
- 3. adding in body movement to help give a better result in the use of the technique
- 4. understanding how to make techniques more well-knit and the stepping more agile
Prerequisites: Prior training experience in the Lion system of Yin Style Baguazhang.
